Scholar Tyler Chadwick, whose dissertation explores Caldiero’s work, in live-streamed conversation with the artist

Tyler Chadwick is an award-winning writer, editor, and teacher (English, UVU). He has three books to his name: two anthologies, Fire in the Pasture: 21st Century Mormon Poets (Peculiar Pages, 2011) and Dove Song: Heavenly Mother in Mormon Poetry (Peculiar Pages, 2018), and a collection of poetry and essays, Field Notes on Language and Kinship (Mormon Artists Group, 2013). Panel Discussion: Poems and Portraits

Kim Abunuwara is an associate professor of Integrated Studies and Director of the Humanities program at UVU. She is currently working on a paper about faith differences within Mormon families.

Hannah Slind is a Senior at the University of Utah studying English with a minor in Ecology. She is currently working on her thesis, a poetic work about grocery stories.

Jodie Chadwick is a Humanities and Mathematics Education major at UVU. She also works at a High School as a Math Aide in Orem Utah. When she is not assisting students with math she enjoys discovering old films and tv series.

Christian enjoys languages, literature, and dabbling in a variety of movement disciplines. He holds a bachelor's in English from BYU and is currently studying at UVU while preparing for eventual graduate studies.

Conversation with Filmmakers Torben Bernhard and Travis Low

Travis Low and Torben Bernhard, the filmmakers behind the documentary film The Sonosopher, will talk about the process with the Sonosopher himself — live-streamed.

Torben Bernhard is the editor of the documentaries I WANT MY MTV (Tribeca 2019, A&E), CHURCH & STATE (Special Jury Award, AmDocs, 2018), and the upcoming GOOD FIRE. He served as Director of Photography for QUIET HEROES (Sundance, 2018). He has directed several award-winning short documentaries, including TRANSMORMON and OXYGEN TO FLY, both of which enjoyed viral success and garnered millions of views. He co-directed the feature film THE SONOSOPHER: ALEX CALDIERO IN LIFE…IN SOUND (Cinequest, 2010). He won the Utah Short Film of the Year award over three consecutive festivals, won the 2017 Golden Spike Award for External Video Marketing, was selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick, and has received Artistic Vision awards from multiple film festivals. His work has been featured by The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic, The Guardian, and many more outlets throughout the world.

Travis Low is an audio and video documentary artist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. His films directed include THE SONOSOPHER: ALEX CALDIERO IN LIFE...IN SOUND, BOOMTOWN, and THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO RALPHAEL which was selected as Editor's Pick by The Atlantic. He has served as a sound designer and editor on several other films including TRANSMORMON, CHURCH & STATE, and SAME-SEX ATTRACTED. His work has received awards at film festivals across the country, and has been featured by publications such as National Geographic and The New York Times, among others. Travis is also active in the collection and archival side of documentary work. In non-pandemic times he can often be found haunting the stacks and corners of various bookstores and libraries.

Baggage: Organizing and Exhibiting the Work of Alex Caldiero at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art

Laura Allred Hurtado, co-curator of the exhibition, is the Executive Director of UMOCA. She has published broadly, including two books, has worked and/or curated exhibitions in New York City, San Francisco, and throughout Utah, at such places as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Nox Contemporary, The Granary Art Center, The Utah Museum of Fine Arts, CUAC Contemporary, Riverside Church, the Rio Gallery, Columbia University, and the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

Jared Stefensen, curator of the exhibition, is an artist and curator at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in Salt Lake City, UT. He earned a BFA in Intermedia Sculpture from the University of Utah in 2002 and an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006. He was a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant in 2006. His curatorial work is largely focused on local and regional issues of the Intermountain West, including Cities of Conviction (Contemporary Artists from Saudi Arabia), Desire Lines, Working Hard to Be Useless, and Shady Acres.

Golda Dopp Ovalles, UMOCA education coordinator, is a proud alumna of Utah Valley University. Graduating summa cum laude, Golda received the Art History Award of Merit in 2020. She now works at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in visitor services, educational programming, and intern management. She is passionate about promoting curiosity and critical thinking surrounding contemporary art. Beyond museums, Golda enjoys collecting art, and teaching ballet and flute.

Conversation about Books, Bookmaking, and a New Book

Alex Caldiero and Andy Hoffmann (Publisher of Elik Press, which has issued Caldiero's new book: Per-Sonal Effects this spring) in a live-streamed conversation

Andy Hoffmann publishes Elik Press, Salt Lake City, and teaches in the University of Utah’s Honors College where he leads the newly launched Great Basin Interdisciplinary Research Practicum. His current projects include a collection of essays that inspect the poetics of pilgrimage and a series of micro-essays and poems on the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau landscapes.
